Mr. Ray Shickles
Mr. William Raymond "Ray" Shickles, age 81, resident of Ashdown, passed from this life on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at his home surrounded by family.
He was ninth of eleven children born to Chester E. and Sina Marie Smith Shickles on March 10, 1938 in Naylor, Missouri. Ray married the love of his life, JoAnn Mary Brophy, on June 6, 1969 in Rockford, Illinois. He proudly served with the United States Army and later received an Associates Degree from Rock Valley College in Rockford. He worked as a Tax Preparer, spending over 50 years in the Accounting business and once owned Shickles Tax Service. He enjoyed story telling and once fishing, but most of all, he cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Jeffery Call; four brothers, Carson, Chester, Clyde and Joseph Shickles; two sisters, Gladys Creach and Zeta Brannum; and three brothers-in-law, Harold Paris, J. R. Brannum, and Lonnie Creach
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over 50 years, JoAnn Shickles of Ashdown; four daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Marie Ditus (Geral) of Wellington, Colorado, Traci Lynn Call of Rockford, Illinois, Cherie Ann Barfield (Mike) of Gillham and Robin Renee Dorsey (Mark) of De Queen; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Allison, Blake, Kyle, Casey, Shelby, Lindsey and Lucas; fifteen great-grandchildren; four sisters and their spouses, Velma Paris of Rockford, Illinois, Martha Woods (Ron) of Doniphan, Missouri, Marjorie York (Dan) of Rockford, Illinois, Hazel Pickering of Gladstone, Missouri; as well as, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
