He was born to Billy Ray and Erna Mae Haygood Allen in Hillsboro, Texas, on July 17, 1938. He served his country with the National Guard, where he served as a Captain. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Newton McIlhenny Allen, on January 23, 1998, in De Queen, Arkansas. Doc worked for the USDA as a fill-in Vet and enjoyed traveling. Doc and his wife, Beth, visited all forty-nine states and would have visited all fifty if there had been a road to Hawaii. Doc was preceded by his parents and two sons, Dennis Allen and Charles Spear.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Elizabeth Newton McIlhenny "Beth" Allen of Lockesburg;
one son, Will Allen of Gainesville, Texas; a daughter, Valarie Gilbreath of Gainesville, Texas; a step-son, Tom Spear of Georgetown, Texas; special friends, Chad and Miki Johnson of Jessieville, Arkansas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Doc's wish was to be donated to medical science. Arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, Arkansas. You may send an online condolence to www.chandlerfuneral.com.
