Mr. Ulyses “Slim” Sowell, age 93, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, passed from this life on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born to Hershal and Wilda Sowell in Solgohachi, Arkansas, on April 22, 1933. He served his country with the United States Army, and was a meat cutter by trade, working several years with Lewis Food Center. He married Evelyn Gideon in De Queen, Arkansas on December 5, 1988, and they spent 37 wonderful years together. Slim enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening, spending time with his kids, grandkids, and chasing Evelyn around the house.

Slim was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Esperanza "Randy" Sowell, a son, Ulyses “Louis” Sowell, his siblings, Idabel, Amy, Charles, Joe, James and an infant brother.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Evelyn Sowell of Lockesburg; twelve children and their spouses, James Paul Sowell of Horatio; Margaret Ann Morris of Gillham, Rosemary Sowell of De Queen, Richard and Sandra Sowell of Winthrop, Barbara Ann and Brad Stewart of Horatio, Joe Ralph and Blanca Sowell of Winthrop, Raymond Joe an Trisha Sowell of Hot Springs, Sandra Elizabeth “Sandi” Martin of Center Point, Mildred Lissette Sowell of Lockesburg, Michael Hamilton of Davidsboro, Georgia, Christa and Lonnie “Bud” Pressley of De Queen, and Amber and Collin Turney of Benton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Claude Campbell of Conway; nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

Graveside funeral services with military rites for Mr. Slim Sowell will be held at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Odd Fellows Cemetery, in Lockesburg, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home in De Queen. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel.
