Mrs. Phyllis Mae Berti, age 75, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at her home, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Blue Island, Illinois on January 27, 1941, to John and Helen Smola Ekert. After her dad's death in World War II, she was raised by her mom and step-father, Louis Hankus. She worked as a medical records technician, as well as a homemaker. She was Catholic, and enjoyed traveling, housekeeping, her flower garden, and floral designs. She was preceded in death her parents, and her husband of over 40 years, Jerome Leon Berti. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jeffery and Toula Berti of Hinsdale, Illinois, Joseph and Amy Berti of Denver, Colorado, and James Berti of Casa Grande, Arizona, a daughter, Cindy Berti of De Queen, Arkansas, a sister, Carol Guger of Orland, Illinois, twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorial Services for Mrs. Phyllis Berti will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 13, 2016, in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Johnson officiating.
