Mr. Paul Wilson Spears, age 73, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at home with family by his side.
Paul was born the oldest of four children to the union of Woodrow Wilson and Ivelene Baker Spears on August 12, 1948, in Tom, Oklahoma. He was a 1967 graduate of Haworth High School, from which he would boast his graduating top ten in the class of eight. After graduation, he enlisted with the United States Air Force, taking active deployment to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on March 21, 1969. Following his discharge from the service, Paul worked different capacities over the years including time with the Arkansas Highway Department, and his position as Manager at Pilgrim's Pride in De Queen. He married the love of his life, Della Mae Young, on June 2, 1984, in De Queen. Together they purchased Ayers Cleaners in 1986, faithfully fulfilling the laundry and cleaning needs of De Queen and surrounding communities for the next thirty-six years. Paul and Della are members of the First Baptist Church in De Queen, and he was an active member of the Arkansas and Sevier County Cattleman's Associations. He was a faithful sponsor of Toys for Tots, and Coats for Kids for many years. He enjoyed his cattle and farming, camping with Della and their grandchildren, boating, and working. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with loving family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father, Johnny Hurst; one brother, Jimmy Hurst; and three sisters, Hester Murray, Leatha Hurst, and Teresa Green.
Paul leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of almost thirty-eight years, Della Spears of De Queen; three sons, Johnny Spears of De Queen, Tim King and wife Bonnie of Hebron, Kentucky, and Brian King and wife Kim of Hooks, Texas; one daughter, Stacy Heath and husband Mark of Foreman; eight grandchildren, Justin King of Little Rock, Kirstin King of Walkerton, Indiana, Matthew King of De Queen, Kelsie Taylor and husband Zack of Waldron, Breanna King of Ashdown, Megan Shelly of De Queen, Brent Heath of Tom, Oklahoma, and Blake Heath of Foreman; ten great-grandchildren, Raelee Churchwell, Josie Churchwell, Madison Jones, Mila Canaday, Prezlee Goins, Mariella Canaday, Memphis Czech, Emberly Taylor, Braxton Vaughn, Gage Tucker, and twin Taylor babies due in June; one sister, Floetta Ledbetter of Idabel; as well as the many past and present employees of Ayers Cleaners, other relatives, and a host of friends.
