Mrs. Mary Grant
Mrs. Mary Edward Grant, age 76, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Wednesday, February 19, 2020, in Idabel, Oklahoma.
She was the eldest of two children born to the late Edward Grant and Anna Ross Grant on January 30, 1944, in Mansfield, Louisiana. She attended Desoto High School in Mansfield and the Beauty College in Shreveport.
She was baptized at an early age and joined St. James AME Church in Mansfield. Later she rededicated her life and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and joined East Side Church of God In Christ in Mansfield, serving there until the Lord moved her to Arkansas. She then joined Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ in De Queen. For more than 40 years she has been on the battlefield fighting for her Lord. She had a reputation of being a hard and dedicated worker for the Lord, as she worked untiringly with the Pastor's Aide, Sunday School and cleaned the church for many years with a smile, until her health failed. She loved God and her church. People from all walks of life, near and far, sought her out for prayer and counseling.
While in Louisiana, she was an entrepreneur, the life of the party and lived life to the fullest. The world owed her nothing! She had a zest for life and was very sociable and outgoing, enjoying the time spent with family and friends. She was devoted to her family and loyal to her friends. She was a retired Direct Service Provider to individuals with developmental disabilities for many years.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; three children, Gerard Thomas, Lauretta Grant and Talbert Grant; her brother, Henry Johnson; three grandchildren, Gabriel Grant, Mariah Grant and Nyiah Grant; one great-grandson, Demarcus Grant; as well as, her brother-in-law, Supt. E.A. Edwards.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Betty Edwards of De Queen; four sons, Kevin (LaTrell) Grant of Idabel, Bishop Patrick (Sherrie) Grant, Odis (Paula) Grant, both of De Queen, and Oliver Grant of Lockesburg; one grandson whom she raised as her own, Courtney Russell; 34 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; five nieces, two nephews; two special friends, Dorothy Calhoun and Etta M. Atkins; as well as, a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Grant will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ with Eld. Isaac Hawkins and Eld. Jerome Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will host a family hour beginning at 6:00 P.M., Friday, at Lewis Temple.
