Obituary

Mr. Lee Roy Nelson, age 87, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at his home.

Lee Roy was one of eleven children born to Flander and Floy Peterson Nelson on August 12, 1935, in Mineral Springs, Arkansas. He was a truck driver by trade, spending a great number of years on the highways of the United States. It was said, "He has diesel in his blood." Lee Roy tried retiring more than once but seemed to find himself back in the cab of truck before long. After he made his last trip, Lee Roy spent his time fishing and visiting with his family and many friends. He was a Mason and member of New Zion Baptist Church in De Queen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Flander and Floy Nelson; his loving wife, Barbara Jean Nelson; four brothers, D.W. Nelson, Charles Nelson, Lee Nelson, and Jim Nelson; and five sisters, Minnie Hopkins, Pauline Jordan, Mary Whitmore, Olene Bennett, and Agnes Gilmore.

Lee Roy leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Deborah Nelson-Bedell of Springfield, Missouri; one son, Ronald Martin of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jeannette Peters of Las Vegas, Shaquille Lee Roy Irving Walsh of Springfield, Sarah (Ramsly) Alexis of Omaha, Tyree Gunn of Wyoming, and Henry Williams of Omaha; ten great-grandchildren, Briana, Kiana, Lea Kymier, Vivian, Isaac, Joshua, Aalyah, and Christian; three great-great-grandchildren, Jaylan, Rue, and Jurne; one sister, Willie Boyles of De Queen; a special niece, Marie Whitmore of De Queen; his daughter's mother, Shirley Marie Nelson of Las Vegas, Nevada,  as well as other loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and a host of friends.

Memorial Services for Mr. Lee Roy Nelson will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 1, 2023, in the New Zion Baptist Church in De Queen, with Reverend Carl Henderson officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in De Queen. Arrangements are entrusted to Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen. You may leave a condolence online at www.chandlerfuneral.com.
