Obituary

Mr. Jose Loreto Torres Varela, age 86, a resident of De Queen, passed from this life on Friday, May 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on December 31, 1939, in Rio Grande, Zacatecas, Mexico, the son of Tomas Torres Flores and Ursula Varela Cordova.  He was a member of the Catholic Church and worked for a motor company where he worked as a painter and in maintenance.  Jose was a hard worker, working on this farm with his sheep.  He enjoyed drinking cokes, eating fish, and spending time with his family.  He was the best father, husband, grandfather, and would help anyone that he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ancelma Castaneda Barrera, and two brothers, Tomas Torres, and Aurelio Torres.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Juana Torres of Nashville, Arkansas, Gonzalo (Elizabeth) Torres of De Queen, Jesusa (Erensto) Marrufo of De Queen, Ezequiel (Matilde) Torres of De Queen, Lorenza (Daniel) Coronado of Dallas, Texas, Irene (Federico) Ramirez of De Queen, Zusana (Carmelo) Barboza of Zacatecas, Mexico and Silvina (Fernando) Gonzalez of Houston, Texas; twenty-five grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his spouse of twenty years, Consuelo Castaneda of Mexico; one brother, Cruz Torres of Mexico; four sisters, Leonor Torres, Luz Torres, Marina Torres all of Mexico, and Teresa Torres of Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

Funeral Mass for Mr. Torres will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 4:00 P.M., in the Monsignor Scott Friend Pastoral Center at St. Barbara's Catholic Church, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home in De Queen. Burial will follow in De La Florida Cemetery in Zacatecas Mexico. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with the Holy Rosery beginning at 6:00 P.M. El Sr. Jose Loreto Torres Varela, de 86 años, residente de De Queen, falleció el viernes 1 de mayo de 2026 en su domicilio rodeado de su familia.  Nació el 31 de diciembre de 1939 en Río Grande, Zacatecas, México, hijo de Tomás Torres Flores y Úrsula Varela Córdova.  Era miembro de la Iglesia Católica y trabajó para una empresa automovilística, donde trabajó como pintor y en mantenimiento.  José era un trabajador incansable, trabajando en esta granja con sus ovejas.  Le gustaba beber refrescos, comer pescado y pasar tiempo con su familia.  Era el mejor padre, marido y abuelo, y ayudaría a quien pudiera.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, su primera esposa, Ancelma Castaneda Barrera, y dos hermanos, Tomás Torres y Aurelio Torres.

Deja para atesorar su memoria a sus hijos: Juana Torres de Nashville, Arkansas, Gonzalo (Elizabeth) Torres de De Queen, Jesusa (Erensto) Marrufo de De Queen, Ezequiel (Matilde) Torres de De Queen, Lorenza (Daniel) Coronado de Dallas, Texas; Irene (Federico) Ramírez de De Queen, Zusana (Carmelo) Barboza de Zacatecas, México y Silvina (Fernando) González de Houston, Texas; veinticinco nietos; y de varios bisnietos y tataranietos; su esposa durante veinte años, Consuelo Castaneda de México; un hermano, Cruz Torres de México; cuatro hermanas, Leonor Torres, Luz Torres, Marina Torres, todas de México, y Teresa Torres de Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

La misa funeral del Sr. Torres se celebrará el jueves 7 de mayo de 2026 a las 16:00 horas en el Centro Pastoral Monseñor Scott Friend de la Iglesia Católica de Santa Bárbara, bajo la dirección de la funeraria Chandler en De Queen. El entierro seguirá en el cementerio De La Florida en Zacatecas, México. La visita se celebrará el miércoles 6 de mayo de 2026, de 17:00 a 20:00, en la capilla de la funeraria Chandler con la Holy Rosery, comenzando a las 18:00.
