Obituary

Mr. Carlos Joe Smith, age 63, passed away at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas. Mr. Smith was born in Ashdown, Arkansas, on January 27, 1953, to Rufus Roland Smith and Catie Lee Muriel Scott Smith. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, and an older brother, Michael Smith. Surviving Mr. Smith are: his wife, Leeann Hames Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law: Starla and Mark Morgan of Bentonville, Arkansas; and Melissa Smith-Grantham and Joseph Grantham of Conway, Arkansas; seven grandchildren: Austin, Colton, Brooklyn, Nora, Ledger, and Lyric Morgan; and Koen Grantham; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Scotty and Sandy Smith, and Kenny and Betty Smith of Winthrop, Arkansas; five nieces and nephews: Michael Roland Smith, Terry Smith, Ginger Smith Young, Jay Smith, and Brooks Smith. Mr. Smith was a farmer, supervisor at Cadence Environmental Industries, former off shore welder in Grand Isle, Louisiana, middle school teacher at New Boston Middle School, high school teacher at Saratoga High School, and college professor at the Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas. He loved The Lord, his family, friends, fishing, and he lived every day to be productive at making and accomplishing something. His grandchildren were a joy in his life and he cherished spending time with them and encouraging their mischievous ways, often to the dismay of their mothers. Mr. Smith was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads and when he did not attend church, he listened to God's word from First Baptist Church of Texarkana at Moore's Lane. Constantly creating things, Mr. Smith loved crafting knives, flashlights and other necessities out of spare pieces of material. When repairing a piece of machinery, Mr. Smith was renown for mending the broken equipment better than new. Mr. Smith was also well known for the exhilarating way he could recount a story involving his friends or relatives. A celebration of the life of Mr. Smith will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads in Winthrop, Arkansas, on November 19, 2016, at 10:00 AM with the Reverend Audie Dawson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads in Winthrop, Arkansas. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, Arkansas. You may send an online sympathy message at www.chandlerfuneral.com .
