Mrs. Joan Marie Smalley Compagna, age 91, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, died Monday, March 18, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Dallas, Texas on December 3, 1932.  She received her RN license through Parkland Hospital in Dallas, and in Dallas was where she met and married the love of life, Joseph Gerard Compagna.  She worked in the De Queen Medical Center as an ICU RN with 37 years of service.  Joan was a member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, camping, her children's activities, and playing softball.  Most of all, Joan was devoted to family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 67 years, Joe Compagna, and a grandson, Justin Watkins.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Catherine and Donald Talley of Wickes, LTC (retired) David and Cheryl Compagna of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Kenneth Compagna of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Joseph Watkins, Gerald Watkins and his wife, Heather, Kyle Compagna, and Teresa Compagna; seven great-grandchildren, Eden Watkins, Bodie Watkins, Kalin Smith and her husband, Kameron, Joseph Bailey Watkins, and his girlfriend, Kylee Cody, Addison Watkins, Avery Watkins, and Gia Compagna; two great-great-grandchildren, Kase Smith and Kooper Smith.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 3:00 P.M., in St. Barbara Catholic Church with Father Ramses Mendieta officiating.  Burial will follow in Duckett Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, March 22nd at Chandler Funeral Home from 5:00 until 6:30 P.M.
