Obituary

Mr. Jimmy Dwayne Barnes, age 84, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, passed from this life on Sunday, July 14, 2024, in Hospice of Texarkana surrounded by his family.

He was one of two children born to Ray and Carrie Rae Bedwell Barnes.  He was born on July 4, 1940, at their family home in Greens Chapel Community.  After graduating from Dierks High School he went on to Southern Arkansas University, formerly known as Southern State College in Magnolia, Arkansas. He worked for Weyerhaeuser at both the Briar Plant in Howard County and then as a forester in De Queen before he went to work as a forest ranger for the Arkansas State Forestry Commission.  He was a Christian and attended the Wickes Pentecostal Church of God.  Jim was committed to strengthening and renewing Christian discipleship in his work with the Walk to Emmaus Community, he was dedicated to inspiring and encouraging anyone desiring to strengthen their own walk with Jesus and served as a volunteer in the local nursing homes.   He enjoyed gardening, making metal cross necklaces, wooden walking canes, but his best time spent was with his family.

Jimmy was preceded in death by parents, his first wife, Sue Barnes, and a son, Bill Barnes.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Sherry Ann Griffin Barnes of Lockesburg, His children and their spouses, Jon Barnes and Amy Elias, Melanie and Jonathan Barnhill, Jay and Samanthia Barnes; his step-daughter, Brandi and Eric Smith; his grandchildren, Zach Womack, Jeb Womack, Joshua Barnes, David Barnes and his wife, Kayla, Shiloh Smith, Jamee Brewer and Jessica Brewer; a sister, Jackie Barnhill, a great-grandson, Neo Barnes and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

A memorial celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 10:00 A.M., in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel.  Arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, Arkansas.  You may send an online sympathy message at www.chandlerfuneral.com
