Mr. James Burns
Mr. James Curtis Burns, of Ashdown, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, October 1, 2021, in a Texarkana, Texas hospital. "Happy," as he was known to many friends, journeyed this Earth eighty-four years, three months, and twenty-two days.
Happy was born June 9, 1937, in Lockesburg, Arkansas, to Savanah and Lola Austin Burns, the eldest of eleven children. He worked many years for Weyerhaeuser in Dierks, Arkansas, and was faithful member of the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Lockesburg. He enjoyed dancing and fishing, but most of all, he cherished every minute spent with his children, grandchildren, relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Virginia Hill Burns; daughter, Tommie Faye Burns; and six siblings, Mary, Berta, Joan, Mary Jean, Leophis, and Gracie.
Happy leaves to cherish his loving memory, his daughter, Tracy Smith and husband Glenn of Texarkana; four step-children, Terri Carrington and husband Michael of Houston, Telisa Burns of Houston, Travis Fultcher and wife Charlotte of Texarkana, and Towana Gamble of Mineral Springs; two grandchildren, Ashley Burns and husband George of Houston, and Ashton Burns and wife Marlene of Houston; two great-grandchildren, Janae and Kayla Wade; one great-great-grandchild, Kameron Wade; one sister, Lillian Burns of California; three brothers, Isum Burns and wife Doritha of Ashdown, Lee Doris Burns and wife Cheryl of Ashdown, and Larry Burns and wife Gloria of Flint; as well as a number of step-grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Funeral Services for Mr. James Burns will be held at 2:30 P.M., Sunday, October 10, 2021, at New Zion Baptist Church in Lockesburg, with Revs. Rondy Briggs, James Hood, Kevin Starks, and Larry Clardy officiating. Burial will follow at Williamson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Saturday, at the funeral home.
