Mr. Jack Murphy
Mr. Bernard John Murphy, Sr., affectionately known as "Jack", age 93, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at his home.

Jack was born one of seven children to Bernard John Murphy, Sr. and Margret Ann Hassett Murphy on June 10, 1929, in Seattle, Washington. He was a 1947 graduate of Mt. Vernon Union High School, and went on to attend Western Washington College of Education. On April 21, 1948, Jack entered into service with the United States Army. During this time, Jack served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps, Combat Surveillance Company 6470, and others. He continued his education in the Army, receiving a degree in Computer Development and Maintenance. Jack faithfully served stateside and internationally during the time of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Era. On December 10, 1959, he received his highest rank during service, Chief Warrant Officer 3. Later, Jack took an honorable discharge and retirement after more than twenty-three years of service. Following his time in the Army, Jack worked as Computer Technician with Control Data Corporation, receiving several accolades over the years. In 1970, he received his Hunter's Education Instructors license, teaching countless youth the importance of hunter's safety and education, over the years. He was of the Catholic faith, member of the Elks Lodge, and was a Ham Radio Operator. Jack enjoyed Square Dance calling, was an avid Chess player, watching the Green Bay Packers, and a good game of Baseball. Jack cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Murphy; two brothers David Murphy and his wife; Leo Murphy and his wife; one son, Bernard J. Murphy, III; three grandsons, Kyle Swain, Chris Yawn, and Travis Davis.

Jack leaves to cherish his memory, four children and their spouses, Barbara Swain and husband Keith, Gary T. Murphy, Sr. and wife Marilyn, Larry Murphy, and Laurie Herson and husband Jim; one daughter-in-law, Connie Murphy; eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and a number of great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Bigger and husband Gary, and Maggie Murphy; two brothers, Alan Murphy, and Chris Murphy and wife Laura; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral Services with Military Honors, honoring the life of Mr. Jack Murphy were held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home in De Queen.
