Mr. John Lee "Jay" Jones, age 94, a resident of Texarkana, passed from this life on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Cornerstone Retirement Community, Texarkana, Texas.
He was born to Otha and Iris Lee Lockard Jones in Cabot, Arkansas on May 31, 1930. He received his Banking Degree from LSU and was vice-president of Arkansas Bank & Trust and Regions Bank, Hot Springs, Arkansas, retiring to De Queen for 20 years. He and his wife, Peggy, moved to Wake Village, Texas, where he was a Wake Village First Baptist Church member. He was a charter member of the Heifer International, De Queen Rotary Club, Optimistic Club, and Mt. Ida Cemetery Board. He enjoyed bass fishing, bowling, bird hunting, building stuff, the French Cousins reunion, and he was the man behind the scenes. But most of all, his best time spent was with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Russell Jones, and a granddaughter, Victoria Lowry.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, of over 45 years, Peggy J. Godwin Jones of Texarkana, Texas, a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Bob Lowry of Hot Springs, Arkansas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Derek and Jessica Ballard of Texarkana, Texas; and Brady and Nikki Ballard of Hot Springs, Arkansas; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Steven and Courtney Lowry of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Jared Ballard, James and Madison Ballard, and Reid Ballard all of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Amanda and Terry Graham of New Boston, Texas, Christopher and Cheri Ballard of Arlington, Texas, Brandon and Dori Ballard of New Boston, Texas, Daniel and Stephanie Chappell of El Puig, Spain, Josh Chappell of Austin, Texas, and Lauren and Garret Jones of Midland, Texas; two sisters, Sue Hill of Cabot, Arkansas, and Lillian Taylor of Ward, Arkansas; ten great-grandchildren; Valerie Ballard, Jaxson Allen, Ella Graham, Baylen Ballard, Brooklyn Ballard, Evelyn Chappell, Liam Chappell-Rierra, Joaquim Chappell-Rierra, John Jones, Nicholas Jones, nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
Funeral Services for Mr. J. L. Jones will be held at 3:00 P.M., on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Neatherly and Rev. Dan Eakin officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery, De Queen, Arkansas. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 2:00 P.M., until Service Time.
