Rev. Grant Groves
Rev. Grantland Marvin Groves, age 86, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, June 20, 2022, at his home.

Grant, as he was affectionately known, was born October 5, 1935, in Jacksonville, Texas, to Wayland Martel and Bruce Elizabeth Martin Groves, one of three children. Grant was a graduate of Odessa High in Odessa, Texas, and went on to complete four years at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He was a 1960 graduate of Austin Seminary in Austin, Texas. On June 4, 1957, Grant was united in marriage to the love of his life, Robbin Lee Wiggins, in Monroe, Louisiana. To this union, three children were born. In 1960, Grant began his life-long devotion to Ministry in the Presbyterian Church. He began his Pastorship in Holly Grove, Arkansas, follow by a number of years in Vidor, Elsa, Lubbock, Abilene, and Coleman, Texas, Altus, Oklahoma, and finally in De Queen, Arkansas. He was the former and final Minister of the Presbyterian Church in De Queen. Grant and Robbin were key founders of the Chalice Cupboard in De Queen, spending many years serving with the food ministry. Grant was a member of AARP, where he taught the Driver's Refresher Course, and Quarter Century Wireless Association, with which he was a certified Ham Radio Operator. His call number was W5QMZ. He enjoyed reading, collecting, and selling books, collecting stamps and coins, volunteer Pastoring, planting trees, gardening, playing chess, and was a life-time blood donor. Grant also enjoyed serving as a volunteer chaplain in hospitals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Ian Grantland Wesselman; and a brother, James Monroe "Jim" Groves. Grant is survived by his loving wife of over sixty-five years, Robbin Groves of the home; their children, Carl Marvin Groves and his wife Dolores of Bastrop, Texas, Rebecca Elizabeth Groves Wesselman and her husband Mark of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Randolph Martin Groves of De Queen; three grandchildren, Danielle (Eric) Cortez, Connie Swofford, and Leah Elizabeth Wesselman; three great-grandchildren, JonLucas Cortez, Bella Cortez, and Logan Swofford; one brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Lois Ann Groves of Tulsa, Oklahoma; an "adopted" son, Garry Philips and his wife Donna of Albuquerque, New Mexico; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services for Rev. Grant Groves will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in De Queen. Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen is entrusted with arrangements. You may leave a condolence online at www.chandlerfuneral.com.
