Mr. Gene Davis
Mr. Gene George Davis, age 89, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at home with his children by his side.
Gene was born July 16, 1932, in Mena, Arkansas to the union of Harry C. and Ella Nora Keaton Davis, the ninth of ten children. He was a 1950 graduate of Mena High School and went on to attend college at Southern State in Magnolia and State Teacher's College in Conway. He married the love of his life, Carol Ellis, on May 25, 1952, in Mena, and to this marriage, four children were born. Gene faithfully served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge. Following his time in the service, Gene began a career as a Marketing Consultant with AEP SWEPCO, retiring in 1993. Gene had a love for football and spent thirty-seven years officiating the sport. After his many years of service, he was inducted into the Arkansas Officials Association Hall of Fame. Gene was a faithful member of De Queen First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Aside from his love of football, Gene enjoyed fishing and spending time with children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Carol Ellis Davis; and nine siblings.
Gene leaves to cherish his memory, one son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Karen Davis of De Queen; three daughters, Patti Atkins of De Queen, Robin Joseph and Phillip Roussel of Conway, and Kelly Davis of Conway; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan (Ashley) Atkins of Little Rock, Molly (Cameron) Arnold of Tampa, Florida, Melody Daniel of Fouke, Brooks (Michele) Joseph of Conway, Nick Joseph of Conway, Kyle (Katie) Atkins of Fayetteville, and Rebekah Davis of Spiro, Oklahoma; eight great-grandchildren; as well as Mike Atkins of De Queen, and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Funeral Services for Mr. Gene Davis will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the De Queen First Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Herweck and Kyle Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at Redmen Cemetery in De Queen. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen. You may leave a condolence online at www.chandlerfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to the De Queen First Baptist Church Food Closet, in honor of Mr. Gene Davis.
