Mrs. Ernestine Young Smith
Mrs. Ernestine Westbrook Young Smith, age 82, resident of Gillham, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, November 19, 2022, surrounded by family in the comfort of her home.

Ernestine was born on February 7, 1940, in De Queen, Arkansas, to Charles Wesley and Annie Lavina Humphrey Westbrook. Early, Ernestine married Lloyd Franklin Young, and to this union, four daughters were born. Ernestine and Lloyd shared almost forty years before his passing in 1993. She later married A.F. Smith, whom she cherished until his death in 2007. Ernestine worked ten years for Lane Poultry as a USDA Inspector, and for many years, maintained her poultry farm in Gillham. Lloyd owned and operated Lloyd Young Catch Crews, and following his death, Ernestine continued the business for a total of more than thirty years catching chickens in our area. She was a member of the Gillham First Baptist Church and enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves, watching the news, and working. More than anything, Ernestine cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Westbrook and Annie Manning; her husbands, Lloyd Young and A.F. Smith; and two daughters, Kim Vann and Kathy Ann Driver.

Ernestine leaves to cherish her loving memory, two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Gary Whisenhunt of Gillham, and Angela and James Meeker of Gillham; one son-in-law whom she loved as her own, Roger Driver of Gillham; six grandchildren and their spouses, Billy Joe and Robin Driver of Wickes, Angie and Bro. Homer Frachiseur of Gillham, Ramona and Pedro Arenas of De Queen, Bradley Whisenhunt of Gillham, Jesse and Minka Vann of Tyler, Texas, and her youngest grandson whom she raised as her own, Joshua Vann of Tacoma, Washington; sixteen great-grandchildren and their spouses, Alex and Skyler Driver, Lauren and Briar Oliver, Reese Driver, Kayla and Zac Denton, Kelsie and Chris Richardson, Harmoney and J.W. Overturf, Haylee and James Ruth, Itzel Arenas, Austin and Summer Whisenhunt, Tristan Whisenhunt, Tyler Whisenhunt, Emily Whisenhunt, Guy Vann, Aleneia Vann, Vincent Vann, and Melanie Vann; eleven great-great-grandchildren, Kade, Jessie, Rynley, Eli, Blade, Benjamin, Axle, Carlos, Mateo, Willow, and Waylon; as well as a number of special nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ernestine Young Smith will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Homer Frachiseur officiating. Interment will follow at Overturf Cemetery in Gillham. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 22nd, at the funeral home.
