Mrs. Maxine Rakes Cawood, age 91, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Bentonville, Arkansas, died Saturday, April 14, 2018 in Dierks.

She was born to George Washington and Margaret Schaum Rakes in Bentonville, Arkansas, on December 17, 1926.  She was a retired teacher, having taught in the Bentonville Middle School.  She was a member of the New Home United Methodist Church, in Bentonville, Arkansas.  She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and cherished the time spent with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Virginia Kropff, and Georgine Cawood, and in 2010 her husband of 65 years, Virgil Eugene "Jack" Cawood.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Michael Wright of Nashville, Arkansas, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to honor the lives of Mr. Jack and Mrs. Maxine Cawood will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 10:00 A.M., in the New Home Church, Bentonville, Arkansas, with Randy Featherston officiating.
