Obituary

Mrs. Dona Morris

From the Family:

"It is with joy and sadness that we announce the passing of Dona Kay Morris.

Mrs. Dona Kay Oakley Morris, age 83, resident of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed from this life on Friday, November 1, 2019 at her home.

Born December 16, 1935 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Roy Raymond and Mary Adaline Lewis Oakley. Dona was a 1953 graduate of the Kingston High School and a 1973 graduate of the Dallas Jr. College. Her history is incredibly rich! From running a projector at a movie theater as a young woman to driving a school bus in Dallas when her children were in school, nothing was too much for her. She became a realtor once her family moved to Lewisville, Texas and stayed with that until moving with her husband Tony to De Queen. She and Tony were married on February 15, 1974 in Lewisville, Texas. After moving to De Queen, she worked for the De Queen Police Department for 23 years. Here she served various roles including that of "Dog Catcher." She and Tony were members of the De Queen Church of Christ for 37 years. She was a truly remarkable woman who was always very active in the community despite ongoing health issues. She and her husband moved to Nacogdoches, Texas in 2014 to be closer to family and have been members of the Stallings Drive Church of Christ since. Dona enjoyed reading, playing music and woodcarving, but most of all, she cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Leu Rae Oakley and Van Roy Oakley.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of over 45 years, Tony Morris of Nacogdoches, Texas; one son, Kevin Ray Russell of Georgetown, Texas; two daughters, Rebecca Ann Williams of Fort Worth, Texas and Jennifer Kay Stallings and her husband James of Timpson, Texas; two step-daughters, Debra Lynn Smith and her husband Wayne of St. Louis, Missouri and Kathleen Gaye Morris of Nashville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as, other relatives and a host of friends."

Funeral Services for Mrs. Dona Morris will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 4, 2019 in the De Queen Church of Christ with Toney Stowers, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M., until service time, Monday, at the church.
