Donald Payton (1944 - 2023)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Gene Payton on July 7, 2023. Mr. Payton was cherished by the Walker family and the Walker Clinic. Born in 1944, Don lived a vibrant and rich life, delighting in simple pleasures and the camaraderie of those around him.

A gentle soul with an undeniable spark, Donald was a fixture at Peachtree Assisted Living. Known for his jovial nature and beautiful charm, he had a unique ability to light up any room he entered. His friendly demeanor will be greatly missed by the staff and fellow residents of Peachtree, where he was both a friend and an inspiration to all.

Donald had a deep and abiding love for all creatures great and small. He was a caretaker for the community's dog, a faithful companion he adored, and a school of fish that brought him immense joy and a sense of purpose. His love for these creatures was emblematic of his caring, nurturing spirit, reflecting his belief that every life, no matter how small, is important and deserves care and respect.

Donald's love of fishing was well-known, a pastime that not only brought him personal peace but also allowed him to form deep bonds with his fellow residents. His fishing tales, full of vivid descriptions and unexpected twists, were the highlight of many a social gathering at Peachtree.

Predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Opal (Marrow) Payton; brother, Larry Payton; and sister, Joyce Pennington. Donald leaves behind Angie, Randy, and Jackson "Precious" Walker to cherish his memory. He was a man who built his own family from those who were privileged enough to cross his path. His legacy is not carried forth by blood but by the countless lives he touched with his kindness, empathy, and love for life and animals.

As we mourn the loss of this remarkable man, we also celebrate his life - a life filled with passion, compassion, and a genuine love for people and animals alike. His spirit, his stories, and his love of life will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, Angie, Randy & Jackson request that donations be made in Donald's memory to the Humane Society of Sevier County, a cause that was dear to his heart.
