Mr. Dale Floyd Janes, age 99, a resident of Pantego, Texas, and a former resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Texas Health in Arlington, Texas.

He was born to Rufus Edward and Ivy Irene Honnell Janes on January 17, 1927, in De Queen, Arkansas. Dale served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He received a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering from Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State) in 1950. On October 8, 1950, he married his hometown sweetheart, Betty Jo Penney, in the First Christian Church – De Queen. Dale became a father in 1953. He had a 21-year career as an engineer and safety professional and was nationally recognized in 1963 by the American Society of Safety Engineers for publishing his research and findings on a relevant safety subject to the industry. In 1971, Dale returned to Oklahoma State as a Professor and the Head of School of Fire Protection and Industrial Safety. He created the Junior and Senior level curriculum for Industrial Safety during his tenure at Oklahoma State. He became a grandfather in 1978. In 1981, he returned to the industry as Manager of Safety for Koch Industries at their Corpus Christi, Texas oil refinery, and retired in 1989, where he and Betty Jo returned to De Queen. He briefly taught at a local Jr. college, active in his church membership at Memorial Baptist Church, De Queen and enjoyed retirement with his wife, Betty Jo until she lost her battle to cancer in January of 2002. In 2004, he became a great grandfather and in 2008, he received from Oklahoma State University the honor of the “Dale F. Janes Professorship” for the School of Fire Protection and Industrial Engineering Technology. Dale was a member of the De Queen Gideon Camp, American Society of Safety Engineers and First Place Technical Literature.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 51 years, Betty Jo Penney Janes.

Dale leaves to cherish his memory, his son and daughter-in-law, Nolen and Linda Janes, of Mansfield, Texas; two grandchildren and their spouses, Tina and Ron Snouffer and Jason and Jacqueline Janes all of Mansfield, Texas; three great grandsons, Ronnie Snouffer of Dallas, Texas, Jaxon Janes and Jace Janes both of Mansfield, Texas; two sisters, Nelda Williams of Durham, North Carolina and Nila Sue Wilson of Mena, Arkansas; along with nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Dale Janes will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jason Carlton and Bro. Kenny Haney officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow in Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
