Carl R. Vorhease, age 71, passed away on March 6, 2026, in Haworth, Oklahoma. Born July 21, 1954, in Crossett, Carl was a devoted husband, father, mentor, and servant to his community, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and quiet leadership. Raised in Crossett, Carl built his life around the values he believed in most deeply, taking care of people, serving others, and always striving to do what was right.

Carl dedicated 34 years of service to the Georgia-Pacific paper mill in Crossett, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. To many friends and coworkers, he was affectionately known as "Poochie," a nickname that stayed with him through the years and reflected the familiarity and warmth he shared with those around him. Even after retiring from the mill, Carl continued working for several years at Red River Army Depot, proving that slowing down was never really in his nature.

Carl also gave generously of his time to public service. He served Ashley County as a Justice of the Peace on the Quorum Court for more than 12 years. In that role, he helped guide decisions that supported the county and its residents. During his time on the court, he served on several committees, including the jail committee and the hospital committee, always focused on improving the lives of those in his community.

Beyond public office, Carl's servant heart showed up in countless other ways. He was active in his church, Horatio First Assembly, faithfully supporting the advisory board, youth groups, and mentoring young people. Many in the community remember being coached or encouraged by Carl during their younger years. He believed deeply in investing in the next generation.

At home, Carl's greatest joy was his family. He proudly carried the title of "Sugar Daddy," a nickname lovingly given to him by his wife, Debbie. Married as teenagers, Carl and Debbie spent 52 wonderful years building a life together, sharing laughter, devotion, and a partnership that carried them through a lifetime side by side.

Some of Carl's happiest moments were spent at River Island Farms, the special place he and his beloved wife Debbie created together. There, Carl cherished the simple pleasures of life—watching the sunrise, taking in the sunset, and enjoying the peaceful surroundings of their own slice of paradise.

When he wasn't working or serving others, Carl found peace in the outdoors. He was an avid bass fisherman and a skilled hunter who truly appreciated the quiet beauty of nature. Whether on the water at sunrise or in the woods at dawn, those moments reflected the patience, strength, and appreciation for life that defined Carl so well.

Carl never truly believed in retirement. Instead, he simply traded one kind of work for another, always staying busy and always helping someone along the way.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Irene Vorhease; his sister, Deana Ann Vorhease; his brothers, James and George Vorhease; and his son, Stephen Vorhease.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Vorhease; his son, Michael Vorhease and wife, Cora Vorhease; along with extended family, friends, and many community members whose lives were touched by his kindness, mentorship, and example.

Carl Vorhease will be remembered as a man with a servant's heart—someone who believed deeply in caring for others, honoring his faith, and always doing what was right.

A memorial service will be held Monday, March 9, 2026, at 1:00 P.M., at Horatio First Assembly of God in Horatio, Arkansas. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., at Beulahland Assembly of God in Crossett, Arkansas.
