Mr. Billy McWhorter
Mr. William Allen McWhorter, age 81, resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, October 13, 2023, in Texarkana, Texas with his loving family by his side.
Billy, as he was known by most, was born one of five children to William Aaron and Amy Jane Crunk McWhorter on January 5, 1942, at their family home in Lockesburg. Billy attended school in Lockesburg and at a young age, went to work with his father in the log woods. At the age of sixteen, Billy began working full-time for McWhorter Brothers Logging. Billy served a number of years for the Army National Guard, receiving his honorable discharge on November 6, 1968. On April 8, 1966, Billy married the love of his life Wanda Jean Griffin, in Horatio, and to this union, two children were born. Billy and Wanda made Lockesburg their home, working in the log woods, raising their farm, children, and grandchildren. Billy and Wanda were members of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church in Lockesburg for a number of years before joining Cross Point Cowboy Church in Nashville. Billy enjoyed his work in the timber business and farming, but best spent his time with Wanda, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Bobby McWhorter, Jerry McWhorter, and Jim McWhorter.
Billy leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over fifty-seven years, Wanda McWhorter of Lockesburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mark Smith of Texarkana; one son, Billy Ray McWhorter and fiancé Candy Gilbert of Lockesburg; five grandchildren, Kenley Lott and wife Kourtlyn of Forney, Texas, Dara Butler and husband Zane of Foreman, Laken McWhorter of Lockesburg, Hunter McWhorter of Lockesburg, and Wyatt Bray McWhorter of White Hall, Montana; five great-grandchildren, Jayden McWhorter, Harper Lott, Nora Walters, Hudson Sivley, and Ella Sivley; one sister, Diana Shaw of Nash, Texas; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
