Mrs. Sue Nelson
Mrs. Anna Sue Green Nelson, age 77, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed from this life on Monday, August 24, 2020 at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, Shreveport, Louisiana.

She was born to Thurman Young and Ida Ella Sillavan Green on January 4, 1943 in Dierks, Arkansas. Sue was a 1961 graduate of De Queen High School and attended College of Redwoods in Eureka, California where she studied business. She later attended Cossatot Community College in De Queen where she studied nursing and gained her LPN license. After obtaining her license, Sue worked as a psychiatric nurse, working at Pinewood Hospital in Texarkana, Arkansas and later for Southwest Arkansas Counselling and Mental Health Center in Nashville and De Queen. She received several awards over the years including, Nurse of the Year in 1990, for her work at Pinewood Hospital, and Pinecone awards for outstanding work. She married the love of her life, Vernon Clyde Nelson, Jr., on March 17, 1968 at the Hydesville Community Church in Hydesville, California. She was a Baptist and member of Rose Hill Baptist Church in De Queen. She was a member of the national AARP chapter and enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking and watching Nascar, but more than anything, she cherished the time spent with her family and time spent helping others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of over 30 years, Vernon Nelson, Jr.; two brothers, Jesse "Sonny" Green and Larry Green; and two sisters, Sonia Hankins and Nora Cunningham.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Anthony Floyd of De Queen; four grandchildren, Ashley (Cody) McLeod of Alexander, Arkansas, Morgan Floyd of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Kaitlyn and Haylee Floyd, both of De Queen; one great-grandson, Maddex McLeod of Alexander, Arkansas; as well as, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Sue Nelson will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 29, 2020 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Bowlin officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Ida Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.
