Mrs. Anita Cooper
Mrs. Anita Cooper, age 65, resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Sunday, December 4, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Anita was born on February 21, 1957, in Foreman, Arkansas to Isabel Burris (Williams) and Johnny Mack Fields. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at New Dora Baptist Church. She later attended St. James CME Church for many years. She attended Haworth High School in Haworth, Oklahoma.
Anita married her forever love, Vaster Cooper on November 3, 1974, in Idabel, Oklahoma. To this union one daughter was born, Amanda Rochelle Cooper. Anita lived in Idabel, Oklahoma with her husband until his death when she then moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She worked at Idabel public school district, Idabel Memorial Hospital and McCurtain County Gazette. Anita was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. During her retirement years she loved shopping and spending time with family and friends. She was a very outspoken person who loved to talk, and she never met a stranger. Her contagious smile and loving spirit are what made her the loveable person she was. She always wanted to make others happy and was the peace maker of her family. Anita enjoyed singing and was a part of the Angelica Gospel singers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isabel Burris and Johnny Fields; her loving husband for over 40 years, Vaster Cooper; brothers, John Burris, Vel Burris, Thurman Davis and William Burris; sisters, Barbara Matthews and Mary Louise Burris.
Anita leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Amanda Cooper; grandchildren, Deondrea Cooper and Kalifa Cooper; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Cooper, Aubrey Cooper and Elijah Cantley, all of Oklahoma City; sisters, Dianna Bradley (Roosevelt) of Foreman, and Pearlie Mae Burris of Idabel; ex-sister-in-law and devoted friend, Opal Burris, Oklahoma City; sisters-in-law, Quintilian Davis of Lumberton, North Carolina, and Vanessa Burris of Broken Bow; best friend, Beverly Johnson of Oklahoma City; and great-nephew & texting buddy, Zion Lopez-Burris of De Queen. She has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will also cherish her memory.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Anita Cooper will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, December 17, 2022, at New Dora Baptist Church, Haworth, Oklahoma, with Pastor Curtis Winfrey and Prophetess Dr. Willie Jean Markland officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery, Harris, Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen. You may leave a condolence online at www.chandlerfuneral.com.
