Obituary

Mrs. Agnes Gilmore
Mrs. Agnes Nelson Gilmore, age 88, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at her home in De Queen.

One of eleven children, Agnes was born to Flander and Floy Peterson Nelson on April 9, 1933, in Mineral Springs, Arkansas. She was united in marriage to Hubert Lee Gilmore on July 8, 1951, in De Queen, and to this union, nine children were born. Agnes had a passion for cooking and took great pride in feeding her family and friends. She spent thirty-six years blessing the patrons of the Shady Grove Restaurant with her culinary talents. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen, and loved riding around town, spending time with her grandchildren, and sitting on her front porch. In the recent years, when the weather was nice, you would see Agnes enjoying the day on the front porch of her home on Ninth Street. As you passed by, whether she knew you or not, she would always wave and give a big smile guaranteed to brighten your day.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Flander and Floy Nelson; her loving husband, Hubert Gilmore; three sons, Hubert Gilmore, Darrell "Rock" Gilmore, and Creal Gilmore; two grandchildren, Yalonda Robertson and Monica Coulter; four brothers, D.W. Nelson, Charles Nelson, Lee Nelson, and Jim Nelson; four sisters, Minnie Hopkins, Pauline Jordan, Mary Whitmore, and Olene Bennett.

Agnes, or "Granny", as she was known to her family and friends, leaves to cherish her memory, two sons and daughter-in-law, Roy Gilmore of Muncie, Indiana, and Mike Gilmore and Dione of De Queen; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Robertson of De Queen, Louise Goodman and Michael of De Queen, Lynette Gilmore of De Queen, and Emma Gilmore-Young and Albert of De Queen; thirteen grandchildren, Marcellus (Jeonisey) Gilmore, Stacey (Ben) Quinn, Amanda (Quin) Tramel, Amber (Scott) Montgomery, Marcellius Nunley, Brittany Gilmore, Nicole Gilmore, Dalton Goodman, Katelyn (Anthony) Norris, Kolbee (Jamar) Blackmon, Lindsay Gilmore, and Makalee Gilmore; eighteen great-grandchildren; one brother, LeRoy Nelson of De Queen; one sister, Willie Boyles of De Queen; one sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Gilmore of Wichita, Kansas; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of dear friends.
